You can laugh, it’s OK.
Also, I think I need to be much less self-deprecating here. Oh well, it’s my first video! I’ll learn from it

This will be a new category on my blog, simply because I’ve recently ran into some intriguing kitchen tools that could either make eating healthy easier or be a time-suck.
The first item I’m reviewing is a Microwave Steamer. I don’t even remember the brand of this, as I threw out the box, but I believe it was purchased at Walmart and there are many duplicates available anyways.
It comes with three pieces: a bottom (for filling with 2 inches of water), a middle (for placing items to be steamed) and a vented lid (for liddage).
I tested it out with one of my favourite go-to dinners: salmon and steamed carrots.
Note: Salmon is frozen.
I put the lid on and microwaved it for 5 minutes (the recommended time). When I took it out, I could see that the salmon was not cooked through and was a little slushy. I put it back in for another 1.5 minutes and it came out like this:
It was perfectly flakey and the carrots were soft but not mushy.
To sum it up, I will give this product two thumbs up, but I won’t use it all the time. I don’t know how healthy it is to microwave meals in a plastic container, but it is a great option if I don’t have a lot of time to make a good meal.
Normally, making salmon and steamed carrots takes 25 minutes for me and this cut it down to 6.5 minutes. It would also make it easy to make broccoli and cauliflower with cheese (an amazing side dish), so I think I’ll be trying that today.
Next up for review:
I am actually really excited to try this one out. Hopefully I’ll get that review up today or tomorrow!
Heyo!
I present to you:
The Monster Egg Sandwich.
All you have to do to make such a gigantic monstrosity of a breakfast sandwich is simply pour egg whites into a small pan, put a lid over it and let it cook into a perfect circle. Fold the egg circle up, put some cheese on top and pile it on to a bagel (I used a Weight Watchers Whole Wheat bagel). So filling, so good.
I’d just like to share some new discoveries I’ve made this past week and how they’ve quickly made it to the top of my favourite cereal and favourite snack list.
The first one is PopCorners, a chip very similar to Pop Chips because they’re both popped (hence the name). Truth be told, although Pop Chips are trendy, I actually like PopCorners more. They come in 5 flavours: Sea Salt, Jalapeno (my favourite), Butter, Kettle and White Cheddar. All of them are pretty great. I don’t know where to find these in the states, but I had seen them once in a small market in Chicago. For Canadians, I found them at Bulk Barn, so I’d assume that the whole chain would carry the brand.
The second one is a new cereal I tried out: Nature’s Path Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise. Let me just say, this cereal does NOT pass the eat-without-milk test, simply because there’s really nothing in it except for the ingredients listed on the front, plus a little bit of organic evaporated cane juice. However, this is a good thing. That means no mindless snacking on handfuls of cereal. Trust me when I say that it tastes absolutely amazing with unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
I’m off to school now and I’m definitely feeling a smoothie for the ride there. I’m going to try something totally different and add apples to my smoothie, just because I have huge bags of apples that I can’t keep up with.
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
Something good — nay — the BEST thing about shopping early on a Saturday afternoon is the wine tasting. It’s usually at the LCBO (Canadian liquor mall, be jealous), but today it was at 10 AM at my grocery store! There’s a little ‘Wine Cellar’ area and I saw the tasting booth and I was all, “Don’t mind if I do! Here’s my ID, now give me 2.” I ended up walking out with 2 bottles of a new wine, Jackson Triggs Black Series Merlot ($11!!).
I don’t know why I’m doing a post about a wine, but maybe it’s because I really don’t have anything else to talk about today. I wanted to open the bottle and indulge in it all afternoon, but unfortunately, I have to work and can’t be beautifully wine buzzed. Sunday awaits
I was supposed to go apple picking today with Adam’s family, but events transpired and there wasn’t enough time for us to go. Hopefully we get to go soon because I need that 30-pound bag of apples to cook with, snack on, bathe in, and find horses to feed them to.
What’s your favourite wine? Also, do you go shopping on Saturdays solely to partake in wine tastings? I don’t, but it’s that wonderful thing where I’m already grocery shopping and then I realize that it’s wine tasting Saturday.
